Benchmark stock market indices ended the week on a high as Sensex, Nifty surged, with Dalal Street closing on a 3-week-high. Financial and metal sector stocks rallied helping markets end higher.
The S&P BSE Sensex added 356 points to close at 81,904.70, while the NSE Nifty50 gained 108.50 points to end at 25,114.00.
Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited, said that the national market closed at a three-week high, supported by renewed global optimism over a potential Fed rate cut.
“Sentiments improved further on reports that the EU may reject U.S. tariff proposals on India for buying Russian oil. Progress in U.S.-India trade talks is also expected to keep the positive momentum intact in the near term. The defence sector outperformed, aided by the Indian procurement authorities beginning negotiations for six next-generation conventional submarines,” he added.
Bharat Electronics Limited rose by 3.67%, Bajaj Finance gained 3.41%, Bajaj Finserv went up by 2.38%, Axis Bank increased by 1.64%, and Maruti added 1.35%.
The top losers were Eternal, Hindustan Unilever, Trent, Titan, and Bharti Airtel. Eternal dropped by 2.01%, Hindustan Unilever fell by 1.43%, Trent declined by 0.79%, Titan went down by 0.61%, and Bharti Airtel decreased by 0.51%.
The Nifty Midcap100 gained 0.32% while Nifty Smallcap 100 rose 0.64%, and India VIX dropped 2.29%.
Among the sectoral indices, most sectors showed positive momentum with Nifty Metal leading at 0.93%, followed by Nifty Financial Services at 0.82%, Nifty Pharma at 0.63%, Nifty Auto at 0.46%, Nifty Healthcare at 0.43%, Nifty Private Bank at 0.41%, Nifty IT at 0.30%, Nifty PSU Bank at 0.27%, Nifty Realty at 0.06%, Nifty Oil & Gas at 0.04%, and Nifty Consumer Durables at 0.03%.
Only two sectors faced selling pressure with Nifty FMCG declining 0.71% and Nifty Media dropping 0.39%.
