iPhone 17 is finally on sale in India. All Apple Stores in the country opened their doors at 8 a.m. to buyers. However, the hype was so real that interested buyers queued up hours before the sales even began. Apple has four of its prestigious Apple Stores in India, one each in New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Pune.
The Mumbai Apple Store at BKC Jio Centre witnessed what could only be described as a frenzy among buyers waiting to get their hands on Apple’s latest: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, alongside new Apple Watches and AirPods Pro 3. In a video posted by PTI, a large crowd was seen fighting amongst each other. A few people appeared to be throwing hands at one another while ignoring the whistles being blown by security officials. Officials quickly intervened and took the aggressors out of the crowd.
It seems that the people in the crowd were trying to get ahead in the line to ensure that they were the first ones to get their hands on the new iPhone 17 series and the iPhone Air. According to some shoppers, scuffle broke out as people were cutting the line while security officials allegedly did not pay attention. A shopper Mohan Yadav, told ANI, “I have been waiting since the morning. Have been standing in a queue… but the security here has no responsibility. People are breaking lines. Those standing behind don’t get the chance to buy the product due to a lack of responsibility among the security officials.”
iPhone 17 craze leads to overnight queues
The lines were equally large at other locations. Buyers waited patiently overnight outside Apple’s New Delhi store in Saket’s Select Citywalk Mall just to be the first ones to buy the latest iPhone.
India Today talked to a few people in the queue, with some shoppers revealing that they had travelled from places as far as Punjab to buy the iPhone 17. Some buyers claimed that they had been waiting since 1 a.m. for the store’s 8 a.m. opening. The hype was so high that a few buyers had called in sick at work just to be there for the iPhone 17 launch.
The queue in New Delhi spanned across two floors of the mall, with some seats provided for buyers of the new iPhone.
The situation was similar in Apple’s other two Apple Stores in India – in Bengaluru and Pune.
iPhone 17 price in India
The iPhone 17 starts at Rs 82,900 in India, with the ultra-slim iPhone Air priced at Rs 1,19,900. Additionally, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max cost Rs 1,34,900 and Rs 1,49,900, respectively. Despite the eye-watering prices, people seem to be thrilled about the latest iPhones. From the first day of sales, it seems that the iPhone 17 series will likely be another success for Apple.
