Flight prices between Delhi and Mumbai have touched shocking levels as IndiGo’s operational problems entered the third day on Friday. With hundreds of cancellations and thousands of passengers left scrambling for alternatives, fares for last-minute tickets have more than doubled across major travel platforms.
PRICES CLIMB AS DEMAND JUMPS OVERNIGHT
The sudden rush for seats has pushed fares to levels rarely seen on this busy business route. Travellers trying to book urgent flights found that prices had shot up almost instantly.
On MakeMyTrip, a non-stop Delhi–Mumbai flight for December 6, 2025 was priced between Rs 38,376 and Rs 48,972. One-stop options were even higher, starting at Rs 49,585 and going up to Rs 65,460.
Cleartrip showed similar trends. Non-stop flights ranged from Rs 29,280 to Rs 48,972, while connecting flights crossed Rs 70,710.
On Goibibo, the fares were even steeper, starting at Rs 33,636 and going up to an eye-watering Rs 83,890.
Under normal circumstances, even a last-minute ticket on this route would cost around Rs 20,000, nearly one-third of today’s prices.
Adding to the pressure, fares on several other major routes have also jumped, with last-minute bookings showing unusually high prices. A New Delhi–Chennai journey on SpiceJet is listed at Rs 68,932, while New Delhi–Bengaluru on Akasa Air costs Rs 39,101.
Travellers flying from Ahmedabad to Mumbai on IndiGo face fares above Rs 20,000, and Kolkata–Mumbai prices have climbed to Rs 31,444. Routes like Pune–Kolkata and Pune–Hyderabad are quoting Rs 24,176 and Rs 17,501 respectively, indicating a wider spike in airfares across sectors.
ONE OF INDIA’S BUSIEST ROUTES HIT HARD
The Delhi–Mumbai corridor, which connects the national capital with the country’s financial centre, is one of the busiest air routes globally. Any disruption on this route immediately affects business travellers, tourists, and daily commuters.
With IndiGo cancelling numerous flights, the pressure has shifted to other airlines. As a result, the demand spike has pushed fares beyond the reach of many passengers.
CANCELLATIONS CONTINUE ACROSS MAJOR AIRPORTS
IndiGo’s trouble extended into Friday, with more than 750 flights cancelled across major airports. This follows over 550 cancellations the previous day.
At Delhi airport alone, the airline cancelled all 235 flights scheduled for today. Chennai airport is expected to face disruptions until 6 pm, while airports in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad are also reporting widespread delays and cancellations.
Passengers have been left facing uncertainty, longer wait times, and soaring prices, as airlines struggle to handle the sudden load.
