Apple launched a host of new devices the past week, including its most affordable MacBook, the MacBook Neo. However, as per reports, the Cupertino giant is not only planning to expand its entry-level lineup, but also bring new devices on the higher end.
As per a report from Bloomberg, Apple is working on three “Ultra” devices, that is, new devices that will not just be upgrades but sit a step above the company’s existing products. Here is everything you need to know.
iPhone fold
Apple is one of the only major smartphone manufacturers to not have released a foldable device. But that is all set to change soon. Rumours regarding the iPhone fold have been making the rounds for some time now. And the device would be positioned above the Pro Max iPhone when it releases.
As per reports, the foldable iPhone will pack a 7.8-inch crease-less OLED inner screen and a 5.5-inch outer panel. Leaked renders show that the device will have a compact book-like form factor, which would be quite different from devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.
The iPhone fold is expected to run on the yet-to-be-announced A20 Pro chipset, with four cameras in total and a battery that could exceed 5,500mAh.
The foldable iPhone is expected to launch in September 2026, likely alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. In terms of pricing, rumours indicate that the device may be priced at $2,400 (roughly Rs 2,15,000) in the US. For context, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 starts in India at Rs 1,74,999.
OLED MacBook Pro
The MacBook Pro may finally get a major display upgrade soon. Reports suggest that Apple is planning to bring an OLED display to the MacBook Pro, along with touch support. If leaks are accurate, this would be the first time that a MacBook gets a touchscreen.
The OLED MacBook Pro will likely debut with the next-generation M6 Pro and M6 Max chips using a new 2nm process. Though the base M6 MacBook Pro may not get this new panel.
The rumoured OLED MacBook Pro models are expected to feature Dynamic Island, a new dynamic interface, and enlarged controls to improve touch usability. Do note that Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was never a fan of the idea of having a touchscreen on a Mac.
This premium MacBook Pro is said to sit above the current M5 Pro and M5 Max models and bring a price increase similar to previous OLED transitions seen in the iPhone X and iPad Pro. Though it is unclear if the new devices will get a “MacBook Ultra” moniker. For context, the MacBook Pro with the M5 Max chipset starts at Rs 3,99,900.
Next-gen AirPods
Alongside the foldable iPhone and OLED MacBook Pro, Apple is also said to be working on next-generation AirPods equipped. The new AirPods are rumoured to come with IR cameras designed to provide visual intelligence data to Siri.
This would place the new AirPods at the top of the lineup, potentially under the “AirPods Ultra” branding.
Rumours point to the use of IR-based cameras to enable the AirPods to better understand the user’s environment for AI-powered features, rather than for capturing images or video. This upgrade fits with Apple’s broader focus on Apple Intelligence, which is set to get a major upgrade via Gemini this year. Last year, the company announced a Live Translate feature for AirPods.
It is unclear if the new AirPods will get a price hike. For context, the AirPods Pro 3 are priced at Rs 25,900 in India.
