ODI World Cup Prize Money: Australia clinch the trophy and return with cheque of Rs 33 crore which was the prize money for the winners while India, the runners up, get around Rs 16 crore.
The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 came to a close on Sunday as Australia extended their record-extending sixth ODI World Cup title by defeating hosts and title favourites India by six wickets. India, put into bat, were bundled out for 240 as battle-hardened Australian bowlers put in a clinical display and were backed by superb fielding.Australia reached their target in 43 overs, with Travis Head hitting a superb century.
The tournament, in which 10 teams participated, had a total prize money of $10 million or about Rs 83 crore. Australia, the winner, will take home $4 million (Rs 33 crore) and the runners-up India $2 million (Rs 16 crore). In the first semi-finals, India beat New Zealand by 70 runs while in the second semis, Australia edged out South Africa by three wickets in a thriller. In comparison, 2022 football World Cup in Qatar, in which 32 countries participated, had a total prize money of $440 million or Rs 3,660 crore.
ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 – Prize Money Breakdown
According to the Cricket World Cup 2023 format, 10 teams participated in the tournament and each played played one another in the group stage. The four top ranked team qualified for the semis.
The losing semi-finalists – South Africa and England – will both earn $800,000 each. The remaining six teams – Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Netherlands and England – who were eliminated at the group stage will get a guaranteed $100,000 each. For the winner of the each group stage match, there is also an extra $40,000 in prize money for every match. In total, 45 matches were played in the group stage.
FIFA World Cup 2022 Prize Money
The FIFA Football World Cup 2022 was played from 20 November to 18 December 2022 in Qatar which saw participation of 32 teams in 64 matches. In the finals, played on 18 December 2022 at Lusail Stadium, Argentina beat France 4-2 on penalties after a 3-3 draw in a thrilling final. For the third place, Croatia beat Morocco 2-1.
According to FIFA website, 2022 Football World Cup had a total prize money of $440 million. Champions Argentina pocketed $42 million (Rs 350 crore) while runners-up France $30 million. Third-placed Croatia bagged $27 million while fourth placed Morocco $25 million.
Brazil, England, the Netherlands and Portugal, where came in at 5th-8th positions, pocketed $17 million each.
Australia, Japan, Korea Republic, Poland, Senegal, Spain, Switzerland and the USA, who came in at 9th-16th places, got $13 million each. Belgium, Cameroon, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, Germany, Ghana, IR Iran, Mexico, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Tunisia, Uruguay and Wales, got $9 million each for securing for securing 17th-32nd places.
