Microsoft has implemented a new battery icon in the latest preview build, which will facilitate users’ comprehension of their devices’ battery levels. According to reports, it will feature a battery indicator that is color-coded, with four distinct colors to indicate when the battery needs to be recharged. Microsoft asserts that this new indicator will improve the user experience by communicating the battery status more effectively, thereby ensuring that users are informed about the status of their device’s battery life. The new color-coded battery indicator for Windows 11 devices was confirmed by Microsoft in a blog post. It was disclosed that the most recent Windows 11 Insider Preview Build (26120.3000 – KB5050103) will provide users with improved communication of their battery status through the use of four color codes. The four colors will be as follows: black, which will indicate normal status, green for charging, yellow for low battery alert, and red for critically low battery.
Microsoft stated, “This enhancement is intended to ensure that you do not fall off the dreaded “Oh no, my battery’s dead!” cliff; it is centered on clarity and practicality.” Microsoft also emphasized that these color-coded battery statuses will address significant communication barriers by offering “Clarity at a Glance,” color diversity for visual impairments or cognitive difficulties, and universal appeal. The new battery icon will be positioned in the quick configuration on the taskbar system tray.
In addition to the current comprehension of battery status, Microsoft is also introducing a battery percentage option to Windows 11 PCs, which is reportedly one of the most requested battery indicator features. According to reports, the battery percentage will be situated adjacent to the updated battery icon, enabling users to quickly assess the battery’s life. To activate the battery percentage indicator, navigate to “Settings” and select “Power & battery.” Then, activate the “Battery Percentage” feature.
It is important to note that the stable version of these new UI modifications may not be available to all Windows 11 PC users for a short period of time. Currently, they are available to a limited number of Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel.
