Two seven- and fourteen-year-old youngsters tested positive for the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Nagpur, therefore raising the overall count of the respiratory disease to seven.
The youngsters were brought to a private hospital in the Ramdaspeth region of the city on January 3 for treatment with fever and coughing.
Hospital officials verified following tests that the two had HMPV, a disease comparable to Covid-19 that causes upper and lower respiratory tract symptoms like fever, coughing, runny nose and sore throat.
Over a likely increase in case count, the Maharashtra health department is on alert mode. Those with coughing, fever, or any kind of the Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) have been advised to exercise special care.
The department has advised every state resident to stay cool and avoid panicking. It will shortly publish policies on preventions and actions against the infection.
