Cyclone Fengal, Tamil Nadu Chennai Weather Forecast Today LIVE Updates: With Tamil Nadu bracing for the landfall of Cyclone Fengal, extremely heavy rain in Chennai and its neighbouring district prompted authorities to order the closure of schools. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
Schools closed: Owing to adverse weather conditions, schools in Chennai and Chengalpattu districts have been declared closed on Friday, according to news agency PTI. Additionally, the Puducherry government, too, announced that all schools and colleges in the union territory will remain closed till Saturday.
What is the IMD saying? The met department has stated that the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is “very likely” to cross the coast as a depression on Saturday between Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The system is expected to bring wind speeds of 45-55 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 65 kmph, potentially exacerbating the impact of the heavy rains.
