OpenAI has introduced a new subscription plan in India called ChatGPT Go. It is priced at Rs 399 per month. The plan is being rolled out as an India-only option and can also be purchased through UPI, making it more convenient for millions of users who rely on the digital payment system for everyday transactions.
This is the first time OpenAI has created a country-specific subscription plan. While Indian users have had access to the free version of ChatGPT as well as the Plus and Pro plans, the new Go tier is designed to give more people access to advanced tools at a lower monthly cost. The company says the plan has been built keeping in mind the scale of usage in India, which has now become its second-largest market for ChatGPT.

Priced significantly below the Plus subscription, which costs Rs 1,999 per month, ChatGPT Go offers higher limits on some of the most used features. Users get 10 times more message capacity, daily image generations, and file uploads, along with twice the memory length for personalised responses. The plan is powered by GPT-5, the company’s latest model, which includes better support for Indic languages.
UPI integration for subscriptions
One of the biggest additions with the Go plan is the ability to pay through UPI. Until now, Indian users could only subscribe using debit or credit cards, which left out a large number of potential customers. By adding UPI support, OpenAI is hoping to make the subscription process as seamless as possible for users across the country.
This is also the first time that UPI has been enabled for any ChatGPT subscription plan globally. Alongside UPI, other popular Indian payment methods will also be accepted.
Who is ChatGPT Go for?
According to OpenAI, the Go plan has been created for everyday users who want more than what the free version offers but do not need the advanced capacity of Plus or Pro. The company describes it as a tier for students, creators, and professionals who use AI regularly for tasks such as drafting content, solving problems, or generating visuals, but want a plan that is affordable.
The higher usage limits include access to image generation, extended file uploads, advanced data analysis tools such as Python, and a longer memory window. These upgrades are expected to make ChatGPT more practical for projects that require continuity or for users who want to handle more complex queries.
How it fits alongside Plus and Pro
With the introduction of ChatGPT Go, Indian users now have three subscription choices. The Go plan at Rs 399 is aimed at regular users. The existing ChatGPT Plus plan at Rs 1,999 per month continues to provide priority access, faster responses, and higher overall usage for heavy users. At the top end, the ChatGPT Pro plan at Rs 19,900 per month is designed for enterprises and professionals who need scale, advanced model access, and customisation.
Availability
The ChatGPT Go plan is available starting today on both the ChatGPT website and the mobile app. Interested users can select the upgrade option, choose the Go plan, and make payment through UPI or other supported methods. At the moment, there is no annual payment option for Go, Plus, or Pro, and users will need to renew on a monthly basis.
For now, OpenAI is gradually enabling access to the new plan. Those who don’t see the Go plan immediately are advised to check back later as rollout expands.
