The OnePlus Open 2, expected to launch internationally as a rebranded Oppo Find N5, has been in the rumour mill regarding its design and features. If the recent leaks are true, the OnePlus Open 2 could become the thinnest foldable smartphone in the world — even thinner than the current record-holder for being the thinnest foldable smartphone, the Honor Magic V3.
Oppo has recently announced that their new foldable smartphone, the Find N5, will be released in China in February. Based on past launches, the Find N5 will likely be marketed globally as the OnePlus Open 2. The leaked information, shared by popular leakers Digital Chat Station and Smart Pikachu, is quite exciting for fans who have long-awaited the sequel to the OnePlus Open.
When it comes to the design, Oppo’s Senior Vice President Liu Zuohu has described the Find N5 as the world’s thinnest foldable. For context, the Honor Magic V3 measures 4.35mm when unfolded and 9.2mm when folded. According to leaks, the Oppo Find N5 — and by extension, the OnePlus Open 2 — could go even slimmer, reportedly measuring around 4mm in its unfolded state.
Another potential upgrade is the use of a titanium frame, which would make the phone lightweight without compromising durability. With foldable phones often criticised for their fragility, this is an interesting move from OnePlus and Oppo.
On the hardware front, the OnePlus Open 2 is expected to come with a triple-lens Hasselblad camera, satellite communication support, a 6,000mAh battery, and wireless charging. At its core, it will likely be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. Rumoured colour options include black, white, and possibly additional finishes. A leaked image of the inner display shows a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera in the top right corner, maintaining a sleek and modern design.
While the Chinese launch is slated for February, the international release of the OnePlus Open 2 is expected to follow soon after. It could give the phone a significant head start over competitors like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which will likely launch later in the summer.
