Actor Kareena Kapoor Khan, who played Rupa in Laal Singh Chadha, spoke about her character in the film while comparing it to her role in Singham Again. The actor also mentioned how Aamir Khan was “shattered” after their 2022 film tanked at the box office. Kareena was a part of a roundtable discussion for The Hollywood Reporter India, also joined by Vicky Kaushal, Shabana Azmi, Rajkummar Rao, Pratik Gandhi, Kani Kusruti, and Anna Ben.
Kareena Kapoor called Laal Singh Chadha “a beautiful and honest film”. “You have such stalwarts like Aamir who believed in that film. He was shattered. He met me somewhere and said, ‘Picture nahi chali hamari na, tu baat toh karegi na mujhse?’ (Our movie didn’t work. You will still talk to me, right?).’ I said, ‘We are actors, I am the most proud that you gave me Rupa [her character]’,” she said.
Emphasising how proud she is of the character she played in the film, Kareena said, “I feel what Rupa has done more for me than what a Singham [Again] can do.”
Shabana Azmi, who participated in the roundtable, asked Kareena the reason behind her statement. The Chameli actor said, “The character that Advait [Chandan] wrote was so beautiful, and I loved playing it. There is so much to think of. We didn’t make that movie thinking that it would make Rs 500 crore. It was just made with all heart. Everybody gave their best.”
Laal Singh Chadha was released amid a lot of backlash. Though the film garnered critical appreciation, it failed to perform at the box office by earning a lifetime collection of Rs 61.36 crore in India and Rs 133.50 crore worldwide.
