Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan will star in Bawaal
New Delhi: Janhvi Kapoor, busy with GoodLuck Jerry promotions, spoke to NDTV about a video she posted last month as part of the Naach Punjaabban challenge. The viral Instagram challenge was started as a promotional tool for Raj Mehta’s Jugjugg Jeeyo starring Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor. A song from the film, titled The Punjaabban Song, has a distinct hook step that became the central idea for the challenge. Varun tagged a bunch of celebrities, one of whom was Janhvi, to take up this challenge as they had to perform the hook step of the track and record it. The actress, who was in with Varun at the time in Normandy, shooting for Bawaal, danced with the locals at the supermarket.
Narrating the incident, Janhvi told NDTV, “Hum Normandy mein lunch ke liye koi restaurant dhund rahe the. Lunch ke liye koi restaurant nahi mila lekin ek supermarket dikha meine socha chalo soup khareed lete hain (We were trying to find a restaurant for lunch in Normandy. We didn’t find one but we saw a supermarket so we thought let’s go to the supermarket and buy some soup).”
She added that at the supermarket Varun challenged her to do The Punjaabban Song hook step in front of strangers. “Unhone kaha tha ki tum yaha nahi kar payogi. I dare you ki firangi logo ke samne karna chalu karlo (He said that I won’t be able to do the challenge at the supermarket and dared me to do it in front of foreigners).”
With a penchant for accepting challenges, Janhvi told Varun, “Mujhe challenge mat karo mein toh kar lungi. Mein vaise bhi pagal hun (I told him not to challenge me, I’m crazy I’ll even do it.)” She narrated that Varun pressed record on the phone and the actress actually did the challenge at the supermarket.
On June 1, the Dhadak actress her rendition of The Punjaabban Song on Instagram and wrote: “Supermarket mein Bawaal only because you dared me to Varun Dhawan ab bolo.”
On the work front, Janhvi’s recent film GoodLuck Jerry is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. She will later star in Bawaal with Varun Dhawan.
