India vs Sri Lanka: Virat Kohli got the 8000-run mark in his 100th Test as he reached the score of 38 runs in the first innings of the Mohali Test against Sri Lanka. Kohli came in at No. 4 at the fall of Mayank Agarwal’s wicket and looked in fabulous touch after he walked out to bat to rousing applause and a standing ovation.
It was a day of achievements and milestones for Team India batting icon Virat Kohli, who added a few more feathers to his already decorated cap. Kohli reached the
8000-run mark in the longest format of the game when he got to the score of 38 in the first Test against Sri Lanka at IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Given that it came in
his 100th appearance for the hosts in the whites, made it more special for the former captain.Kohli became only the 6th Indian player to score 8000 runs in Test
matches as he joined the likes of Sachin Tendulkar (15921), Rahul Dravid (13265), Sunil Gavaskar (10122), VVS Laxman (8781) and Virender Sehwag (8503) in the
elite list.Overall, Kohli was the 32nd player in the world with Tendulkar at the top of the list with over 15000 runs. However, Tendulkar is on the second spot in the list of
the batsmen fastest to reach the 8000-run mark, with former Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara taking the pole position as he achieved the landmark in 152
innings.The 33-year old became the 14th fastest to reach the landmark as he brought up 8000 runs in 169 runs.Earlier, Kohli was presented with a special cap by the
head coach Rahul Dravid during the felicitation ceremony ahead of the Mohali Test. Kohli became the 12th Indian player to achieve the milestone and joined the likes
of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, VVS Laxman, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Kapil Dev, Dilip Vengsarkar, and
Ishant Sharma to play a century of Tests.
Talking about the game, skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first. While Rohit and Mayank Agarwal were dismissed in the first session, the pair of
Kohli and Hanuma Vihari has put on a solid stand of over 75 runs with the latter scoring a fifty. Vihari replaced Cheteshwar Pujara at No. 3 in the batting order and
played a chanceless innings with composure.
On the other end, Kohli looked determined as ever and didn’t miss out on any boundary opportunity, whenever Sri Lankan bowlers erred on their lines or lengths.
