Google is expanding Gemini integration on Android. After launching new AI features on the Pixel 10 series, the company has now announced a new addition for Android gamers. Users playing games on Android devices can now use a gaming coach to get tips without having to open the Gemini app separately.
In a blog post, Google stated that the Play Games Sidekick will serve as a screen overlay on games downloaded from the Play Store. Users can ask the AI for real-time guidance and tips for the game. For example, you can ask for a better team layout or more aggressive strategies on games such as EA Sports FC Mobile.
Google claims that the sidekick uses Gemini, and players can hold real-time conversations just like the regular Gemini app. The sidekick utilises Gemini Live’s screen-sharing capabilities to understand context and can even provide relevant walkthroughs.
Not only does the sidekick serve as a gaming coach in real-time, but it also provides relevant information about the game on the overlay. This can help players be up to date with the game on every level.
Initially, Google is only supporting a select number of games with Play Games Sidekick. However, the company plans on expanding support in the coming months.
The sidekick’s real-time coaching capabilities are similar to Google’s Circle to Search feature. Though this feature was restricted to selected devices when it comes to games. On the other hand, the Google Play Games Sidekick will be open for all Android devices.

Google is overhauling Play Games. Apart from the new gaming coach, the company is also updating gamer profiles. Now, users will be able to track all their stats and achievements through a single Google Play Games profile. Earlier, the stats were disconnected for a variety of factors, including different platforms, devices, and games.
The new Google Play Games profile will keep track of all your stats, irrespective of the platform or the game. Moreover, users can now create their own AI avatars to express their own style while gaming.
Google Play Games League to start on October 10
Gaming can be quite competitive. Users always try to make it to the leaderboards on one game or another. Games such as Clash of Clans are known for player leagues, with users pushing for trophies to make it to the top.
Now, Google is launching its own league, the Play Games League. It will likely work as a global leaderboard for players with Google Play profiles. It is likely that each game will have its own league. Players on top of the league will earn Play Points rewards.
The first Google Play Games League will start on October 10 for the game, Subway Surfers. The company claims that the league will end on October 23.
