Satyender Jain said most of the patients who succumbed to coronavirus infection on Thursday had comorbidities.
“The hospital admissions are lower this time and the severity of infection is lower as well. Delhi will see around 20,000 cases with a
positivity rate of 19 per cent today,” he said.
Satyender Jain further said till now, there has been no death in the city related to the Omicron variant of coronavirus.
Maintaining that the Delhi government is well prepared, Satyender Jain said infrastructure has been augmented, keeping in mind the high number of Covid-19 cases.
Satyender Jain said that currently, the hospital admissions are less. “Only 10 per cent of beds in Delhi hospitals are full. At present, there are 40,000 active cases,
whereas in the last wave, when there were 40,000 active cases, seven times more patients were admitted to hospitals,” he said.
The health minister further advised people to get treatment in home isolation if they have mild symptoms.
Satyender Jain said most of the healthcare workers are in home isolation as the situation is not alarming yet. “Health assistants are also ready, their training has been
completed. They will be deployed as nursing assistants for basic patient care if needed,” he said.
Delhi on Friday recorded 17,335 fresh Covid cases, the highest single-day rise since May 8, and nine deaths, while the positivity rate mounted to 17.73 per cent.
