Anthropic is taking a big step to deepen its presence in India by ensuring that customer data can stay within the country’s borders. The AI company has announced that Claude will support in-country inference in India in the coming weeks through Amazon Bedrock, allowing AI requests from Indian customers to be processed on servers located in India. The move is aimed at helping businesses in highly regulated sectors adopt generative AI while meeting data residency and compliance requirements.
“Bringing Claude inference to India is a turning point for enterprise AI in this country. India’s banks, insurers, telecoms, public and government agencies steward the data of a billion people. When that data can stay in India, AI moves from pilots into the systems that matter most. Adding in-country inference marks a significant step forward in what we are building here—a growing local team, strong performance in Indian languages, and partnerships that put this technology to work for India,” said Irina Ghose, Managing Director of India at Anthropic.
The company says India has become one of Claude’s biggest markets, with developers and enterprises increasingly using the AI model for complex applications. One of the most common requests from Indian organisations has been the ability to access Claude locally, especially as businesses deal with stricter requirements around customer data.
Data stays in India, making AI easier to adopt
The new capability will be available through Amazon Bedrock, Amazon Web Services’ platform for building and deploying generative AI applications. When customers use Claude through the India endpoint, their requests will be processed on infrastructure located within the country instead of overseas servers.
The announcement is particularly relevant for sectors such as banking, insurance, telecom and government, where organisations must comply with strict internal policies and regulatory requirements regarding customer information. Anthropic says local inference gives these institutions more confidence to move beyond AI trials and deploy the technology across business-critical operations.

With Anthropic’s Claude now available for in-country inferencing through Amazon Bedrock, they can deploy it on the same trusted infrastructure they already run their most critical workloads on, unlocking new possibilities in citizen services and digital transformation,” Sandeep Dutta, President, AWS India and South Asia.
Claude deployments through Amazon Bedrock will also include enterprise-grade audit trails and access controls, helping organisations meet governance and compliance requirements before applications go live.
Banks, IT firms and startups are already using Claude in India
Interestingly, Anthropic also revealed how widely Claude is already being used across India. Axis Bank is using it to improve engineering productivity, while NPCI is building its agentic AI platform, AiNxt, with Claude. IndusInd Bank is developing an AI-powered enterprise knowledge platform, and Godrej Industries has adopted Claude for internal software development, business analysis and knowledge work.
India’s technology services companies are also expanding their use of the model. TCS is equipping 50,000 employees with Claude, Infosys is integrating it with its Topaz AI platform and setting up a dedicated Anthropic Centre of Excellence, while Cognizant, LTIMindtree and LTTS are embedding Claude into enterprise solutions for clients across industries.
Consumer-facing companies are adopting the AI model as well. Swiggy has integrated Claude into some of its services, Instamart is using it to let customers browse more than 40,000 products using natural language, while Invideo relies on Claude to support creators across 190 countries.
Anthropic says the rollout of in-country inference is part of its expansion efforts in India. Since opening its Bengaluru office earlier this year, the company has expanded its local team, strengthened partnerships and continued improving Claude’s performance in Indian languages. With data now able to stay within the country, the company expects more Indian organisations to move from AI experimentation to large-scale deployment.
