RPF Constable Chetan Singh, who shot his senior colleague and three other passengers on a moving Jaipur-Mumbai Superfast Express, is now charged with Section 153A (promoting enmity), besides three other sections.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable Chetan Singh, who shot and killed his senior and three passengers in a train last week, has now been booked under IPC Section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc.). The police also added, Section 363 (kidnapping), Section 341 (wrongful confinement) and Section 342 (wrongful restraint and wrongful confinement) to the FIR.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) has arrested Singh and charged him with murder and under provisions of the Arms Act for his gun rampage on board the Jaipur-Mumbai Superfast Express, which left four people dead.
Singh’s police custody was extended till August 11 after he was produced before a Mumbai court on Monday. His wife and mother were at Borivali GRP to give their statements and submit his medical documents. Police are not buying claims of Chetan Singh being mentally unfit.
On July 31, Constable Chetan shot dead RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector Tika Ram Meena and another passenger on the B5 coach with his automatic weapon after 5 AM. He then shot dead two other passengers on the train, an official said.
The deceased passengers were identified as Abdul Kadarbhai Mohammed Hussain Bhanpurwala (48), a resident of Nalasopara in Palghar, Asgar Abbas Sheikh (48), a resident of Madhubani in Bihar, and one Sadar Mohammed Hussain.
Chetan Singh was arrested with his weapon later while trying to flee after passengers pulled the chain of the train which stopped near Mira Road station (on the Mumbai suburban network).
