The spotlight is back on Elon Musk-owned X after its in-house AI chatbot Grok was found at the centre of a disturbing misuse controversy. What began as casual AI image edits quickly snowballed into a serious safety and legal issue, with users allegedly using Grok to create obscene and sexually suggestive images of real women, and in some cases, children. In several documented cases, users uploaded ordinary pictures and prompted the chatbot to “remove clothes” or depict the subjects in explicit outfits. Reuters also identified instances where the AI generated sexualised images involving children, intensifying the backlash.
