The development came as Eknath Shinde, who has revolted against the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray, claimed the support of nearly 50 MLA, including 40 of the Shiv Sena.
Guwahati: A Shiv Sena leader was Friday detained by the Guwahati Police after he travelled from Satara in Maharashtra to Assam to convince the rebel party leaders to return to Maharashtra.
Sanjay Bhosale, deputy district chief of Shiv Sena from Maharashtra’s Satara, was detained by the police from near the Radisson Blu hotel where at least 40 rebel Shiv Sena MLAs are camping along with state minister Eknath Shinde.
Bhosale has travelled to Guwahati to urge the party’s rebel MLAs lodged at the hotel to return to Maharashtra.
The police said the Shiv Sena member has been detained as he was present in “a sensitive area”. “Action will be taken as per the law,” a cop said.
Bhosale had earlier said that he has come to Guwahati to urge rebel Shiv Sena MLA Eknath Shinde to return to ‘Matoshree’ – the family residence of party supremo and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
“Shiv Sena has given a lot to its MLAs. They should return to ‘Matoshree’,” Bhosale was quoted as saying. He was also seen carrying a banner.
The development came as Shinde, who has revolted against the leadership of Uddhav Thackeray, claimed the support of nearly 50 MLA, including 40 of the Shiv Sena.
Shinde is demanding that the Shiv Sena snap ties with Congress and NCP and walk out of the unnatural MVA alliance. The rebel camp wants the party to align with the BJP. The rebel MLAs are also disgruntled with the leadership of Thackeray, who they said had become inaccessible to them.
They have also accused the NCP of working to finish off the Shiv Sena at the grassroots.
