The memory crisis is taking a toll on smartphones, and once again, we have a price hike. This time, it is Xiaomi that is raising prices of five smartphones – ranging from the Xiaomi 17T and the Redmi Note 15, to the entry-level Redmi 15C and Redmi 15A. The price hike ranges from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 depending on the model.
To give you some context, the AI boom has led to a rise in demand for memory – think DRAM and NAND – for AI datacentres. This has created a shortage in supply, leading to higher prices for phonemakers. Xiaomi is not the only company to have raised prices – Samsung, Vivo, Poco, Nothing, Realme and more have also hiked prices in recent weeks.
India Today Tech has reached out to Xiaomi for a comment. The story will be updated as and when the company responds.
Before we begin, do note that Xiaomi previously increased prices of select devices – Xiaomi Pad 8, Redmi Pad 2, and the Redmi Note 15 SE – just two weeks ago.
