OnePlus is gearing up to introduce two new smartphones, Nord 5 and Nord CE 5 in India today, with the official launch scheduled to go live at 2:00PM. The event will be streamed on the company’s YouTube channel and is part of a broader global unveiling that also includes a new smartwatch, a lighter tablet, and fresh TWS earbuds. While OnePlus has kept much of the official information under wraps, several leaks over the past few weeks have already given users a fairly clear picture of what to expect from the new Nord lineup. Both phones are positioned for the mid-range market and could prove compelling options if the rumoured specifications hold up.
OnePlus Nord 5: What we know so far
The Nord 5 is likely to turn heads with its unusually large 7,000mAh battery, which could appeal strongly to users who rely heavily on their phones throughout the day for work, entertainment, or gaming. Fast charging is also part of the package, with reports suggesting 100W wired support, making it one of the fastest-charging phones in its segment.
Under the hood, the Nord 5 is confirmed to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip, which is expected to bring a noticeable performance jump over the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 used in the Nord 4. The display is also getting some attention, with leaks pointing to a flat OLED panel offering 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen size is expected to be close to 6.74 inches, or perhaps even a bit more due to the larger battery footprint. In terms of design, the phone may adopt a simpler, cleaner look, moving away from the dual-tone back of previous models. A vertical pill-shaped camera housing is likely, and colour options may include pale blue and off-white.
For build materials, OnePlus could use a glass back with a plastic frame, a change that may help reduce costs and weight but could slightly affect the premium feel. The camera setup isn’t expected to see big changes. Some reports indicate a 50-megapixel main rear camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 16-megapixel front camera. The improvements, if any, may come in image processing rather than hardware.
OnePlus Nord CE 5: Slightly lower price, still loaded
The Nord CE 5 is aimed at a more affordable price range and is expected to include a 6.7-inch OLED display with the same 120Hz refresh rate. Powering the device could be the MediaTek Dimensity 8350 chip, paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. It’s also expected to feature a 7,100mAh battery, with slightly slower 80W fast charging, which still keeps it ahead of many phones in the segment. Camera specifications are expected to mirror the Nord 5 with a 50-megapixel main rear sensor and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide shooter. For selfies, we could see a 16-megapixel front camera.
Other launches: Watch, tablet, and buds
OnePlus is also set to unveil a smaller smartwatch, likely to be called the OnePlus Watch 3 (43mm). The device is expected to feature a 1.32-inch display and a more compact, lighter build than the original 46mm model.
A new entry-level tablet, likely branded OnePlus Pad Lite, is also expected to make its debut, though specific details about its specifications remain unclear. The company may also announce the OnePlus Buds 4, which was earlier launched in China.
OnePlus Nord 5, Nord CE 5: Expected price in India
Pricing will be a key factor for both phones. The OnePlus Nord 5 is likely to stick to a sub-Rs 30,000 tag, similar to its predecessor. If the leaks turn out to be accurate, this could make it one of the most powerful options in its category. The Nord CE 5, with slightly toned-down internals, may be priced around Rs 25,000, potentially making it a strong pick in the lower-midrange segment.
